Human Arenas
- The journal is organized around topics and arenas of human activity, rather than the traditional boundaries of academic disciplines. Descriptions of different article formats and topical arenas can be found in “Journal Updates” and should be consulted by authors before submission. Arenas address various aspects of human movement, human creation, human regulation, human knowing, and human relationships with the planet.
- The journal promotes an innovative mix of theoretical and empirical studies, as well as qualitative and quantitative approaches based on “small data” (the analysis of crucial and meaningful data, rather than the inductive accumulation of large empirical “evidence”).
- The journal can be seen as an arena for the development of theoretical foundations and empirical horizons of a general theory of human psyche, from a counter-hegemonic, anti-colonial, and polyphonic perspective, meant to foster continuous critical dialogue with any kind of mainstream. The journal will support the development of general formal models of human phenomena, also by reflecting upon processes of abduction, generalization and theorization.
- The journal aims to provide an interdisciplinary space for debate, in which psychology can learn from other disciplines, and other social and behavioral sciences (e.g. archeology, anthropology, biosemiotics, philosophy, medicine, natural sciences, ecology, humanomics, aesthetics, sociology, art, history, etc.) can learn from psychology. The peer-review process follows the collaborative approach of the journal, and is described in more detail in the submission guidelines.
Culture & Psychology
Culture & Psychology is a leading international peer reviewed journal of scholarly contributions, integrating various aspects of the general notion of culture with scientific psychology.
Culture in its various forms—semiotic mediation, situated activity, dialogical nature of the self and its environment, social representing of human living—is present in each and every moment in our human lives. The science of cultural psychology unites psychology, anthropology, sociology, and history into a general science of cultural being. Its focus is on basic understanding of the psychology of human beings: their identity, social conduct, intra- and intersubjective experiences, emotions, and everyday creativity. The goal of Culture & Psychology is to lead the international scholarly community towards new general theoretical approaches in psychology that include culture. It is not an outlet for purely empirical papers of comparison of people from different ethnic groups. Empirical work is published if demonstrated to be relevant for theory, and adequacy of the data to the phenomena is carefully scrutinized. Predoctoral students and scholars from a diverse set of educational achievements are invited to submit their work. In particular, our outlet of Syntheses is directed for their scholarship.
„Culture & Psychology exhibit[s] a range of thought still fresh enough to remain open to the varieties of experience… [The] high degree of organization not only gives a remarkable coherence to the issues, it also exhibits the cross-disciplinary excitement that arises when psychologists begin to claim culture as a relevant aspect of human psychology“ Times Literary Supplement
„A much-needed addition to the field, in line with the growing recognition that all development, all thinking, acting or feeling takes place in a cultural context“ Jacqueline Goodnow

IPBS covers the history of the social sciences as relevant for development of theoretical perspectives and empirical elaborations within the social and biological sciences. The Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology
The Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology promotes deep reflection on community change and system transformation in which counselors, psychologists, and other human service professionals play a role. This open access journal aims to highlight ‘engaged scholarship’ and the very important social change work done by professionals and activists that would not normally find its way into publication. The journal attempts to break down the divide between theory and practice in one of the most critical areas of our work: social transformation toward social and ecological justice and peace. This journal features action-oriented articles, meaning manuscripts that discuss actual work (e.g., advocacy, activism, research, policy formulation and implementation, training, legislation) that has been conducted by the submitting author(s) and not proposed work or simple conceptualizations of issues. To be considered, these articles also must include empirical data.
